AI search visibility tools tell you whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews name your brand. They are good at measuring. None of them fix the reason you are missing, and for a short prompt list a free spreadsheet gives you the same answer.
They ask AI assistants a list of questions on repeat, then count what comes back. Underneath the dashboards it is the same five numbers.
Two groups. Dedicated platforms built only for this, and established SEO suites that added AI tracking to what they already do.
The dedicated ones include Profound, Peec AI and Otterly. The suites include Ahrefs Brand Radar, Semrush and SE Ranking.
I am not going to rank them for you, because the pricing and features move every few weeks and any list I publish today is stale by the time you read it. Run a trial against your own prompt list and see which one reports the assistants your buyers actually use.
The last row is the one that matters. Both options measure. Neither fixes.
| Free prompt sheet | Paid tool | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup time | About an hour | An afternoon |
| Cost | Nothing | A monthly subscription |
| Prompts you can track | Ten to twenty before it hurts | Hundreds |
| Assistants covered | Whichever you open yourself | Several at once, automatically |
| Repeat runs | You have to remember | Scheduled |
| Tells you why you are missing | No | No |
A tool can tell you that ChatGPT names three competitors and not you. It cannot tell you that the reason is a category page nobody links to and a brand nobody discusses.
That diagnosis comes from looking at where the cited sources came from. When the same review sites, roundups and Reddit threads keep showing up in the citations, those are the places deciding the answer.
That is the work I do on AI search visibility: find who the model is listening to, then get the brand properly represented there. For ZStander, that meant ChatGPT naming them first when asked where to buy lucite shtenders in the US.
Proof should sit near the claims it supports. These recommendations give buyers a clearer reason to trust the work.

A SaaS founder found brand-name confusion, category language issues, citation gaps, and site architecture problems from an AI SEO audit.

Bing indexing, foundational links, schema, and clearer page structure helped ZStander show for a product search in ChatGPT.

One organic Reddit post reached 405,000 views with 518 upvotes and 217 comments, using the recommendation method rather than paid promotion.

Landing-page updates, metadata, schema, competitor analysis, citations, and local content helped a therapy practice rank for key searches.
If this guide matches the problem you are seeing, the service page is the next practical step.
They are directionally accurate on mention rate, which is the number worth watching. Be more careful with the referral-traffic figures, which are often estimated from thin data.
The one your buyers use. For most businesses selling to consumers or small teams that is ChatGPT, and Google AI Overviews matter because they sit on searches you may already rank for.
You need a baseline, not a subscription. Run the prompts by hand once, write down where you stand, then start fixing. See how to track brand mentions in ChatGPT.
No. A tool reports. Visibility changes when your pages answer the question cleanly and other trusted sites describe your brand in the language buyers use.
Send the site, I review the issue, then I reply with the practical first step.
